Dear Patients,

Last week, Ontario Health issued a memo directing hospitals to ramp down all elective surgeries and non-emergent/non-urgent activities in order to preserve critical care and human resource capacity. This directive is effective Monday, April 12, and comes as our health system experiences incredible pressure with record numbers of patients in ICUs and climbing COVID-19 case counts.

During this time, family doctors are being asked to continue providing essential primary care services, including cancer screening and immunizations, for patients. Hospitals are also being directed to continue COVID-19 response efforts, including testing and vaccinations.

We will keep you aware of new information as it becomes available.

In the days ahead, please continue to adhere to the province’s stay-at-home order and encourage your family and friends to do the same. The third wave has brought us to a new and critical point in the pandemic, and we all need to work together to slow the spread of the virus and alleviate pressure on our health system.

Following the provincial government’s announcement last week, the City of Toronto is working with hospitals and healthcare partners to set up pop-up clinics in areas with high COVID-19 case counts for those who are 18+ living. As eligibility will now vary greatly based on postal code, age and occupation, please go to www.Ontario.ca/BookVaccine to navigate eligibility requirements.

City/Public Health Mass Immunization Clinics – ages 60+
Seven city-run mass immunizations clinics are now up and running. Appointments for city-run mass vaccination clinics in Toronto and other regions can be booked through:
  • 1-888-999-6488 (Ontario Call Centre)
Community Pharmacies – ages 55+
Community pharmacies are continuing to offer the AstraZeneca vaccine. Over 700 pharmacies across Ontario are offering COVID-19 vaccines. Eligible individuals can contact a participating pharmacy directly to make an appointment.

Sincerely,

The Downtown Toronto Doctors Team
